YTN ENFORCES OVERTIME BAN GIVEN BY ERTO IN TIETO GROUP

YTN has decided 15th April 2009 to give an overtime ban beginning 16th April 2009 at 6 am to all of its
members working for Tieto Group. The decision holds indefinitely. By doing this, YTN joins the overtime
ban given last week by the Federation of Special Service and Clerical Employees ERTO concerning
special service and clerical employees of Tieto Group and TietoSaab Ltd.

Tieto announced last week that it will axe some 620 jobs, of which about 300 in Finland. In addition to
redundancie, talks are held in the Group to lay off 1,500 for a fixed period or indefinitely. “The numbers of
redundancies and layoffs are shocking,” says Matti Koskinen, YTN representative responsible for the IT
sector. “We do not believe such drastic measures are needed. With the overtime ban we want to make
sure work is shared evenly".

YTN says Tieto must do everything it can in industrial cooperation talks to keep redundancies and mass
layoffs as few as possible. “Tieto Group must include its whole staff in industrial cooperation talks and in
developing the company. At the moment YTN members are excluded from these processes which cannot
be accepted," says Koskinen.

Industrial cooperation process must be handled appropriately

Kalevi Heino, president of Tieto Expert Association TAS, a YTN company union, hopes the employer will
display high-level expertise and willingness to manage the talks smoothly. “If we evaluate all options with
care and add a bit of human touch, other solutions than axing hundreds of jobs can be found in the talks.”

Tieto actions inconsistent

According to very recent news Elisa has outsourced some of its application management services to Tieto.
Matti Koskinen wonders why Tieto claims that demand for IT services has fallen sharply. “How is it
possible that Tieto accepts new outsourcings and at the same time it is telling people to go home? There
is a certain kind of a sinister inconsistency here, and it would be good to hear an explanation. Is this kind
of subcontracting profitable, or is Tieto just getting rid of people because now is a plausible moment for
it?"
YTN is monitoring how the industrial cooperation talks proceed and will try to diminish the numbers of
both sacked and laid off employees. YTN is also searching for solutions to help people who might lose
their jobs to find work.

Possible overtime clearances

If your boss asks you to work overtime in this situation and you think this is absolutely necessary, for
example, to complete a very important project, you can ask for an overtime clearance from TAS. TAS
board will handle each request individually and give you a decision. Juuso Sokura acts as the contact
person for overtime clearances ( Sähköpostiosoite on suojattu roskapostiohjelmia vastaan, Javascript-tuen tulee olla päällä nähdäksesi osoitteen ); send a message to him and he will take it
forward.
