WALKOUT IN TIETO GROUP FRIDAY 15TH MAY

Tietoväki ry and Tieto Experts’ Association (TAS) will organise a walkout Friday 15th May 1.00 – 5.00 pm affecting all jobs in Tieto Group,

if the following guarantees have not been secured in the ongoing industrial cooperation talks:
-        There has to be sufficient proof that the strategic decision by Tieto to outsource functions to countries with lower salaries really leads to the economic profit that is the reason given for these actions.
-        As an employer, Tieto has to adopt a serious attitude to assigning new tasks to its staff at risk of unemployment. Tieto also has to invest in re-training its staff and to support the re-insertion of staff actively. In addition, Tieto has to commit to cutting overtime hours and to replacing subcontractors with members of Tieto staff.
-        The number of redundancies and layoffs presented in the industrial cooperation talks must be cut by at least 50%.

The reason for the walkout is that Tietoväki ry and TAS ry think that the results of the first quarter cannot provide a basis for such a high number of redundancies and layoffs that have been proposed.  If redundancies and layoffs will be implemented as proposed by Tieto, the possibilities of Tieto staff in Finland to achieve the results projected by Tieto will be severely diminished.

In addition, there is reason to doubt the benefits to be reaped from outsourcing, even if the cost of a man-hour is lower outside Finland. At least for the time being, Tieto has not provided enough facts on this in the industrial cooperation talks.

This is the third spring in a row that Tieto Group tries to cut costs at the expense of its staff. Now we as employees need to demonstrate that we have got what it needs to oppose such measures.
The walkout concerns all jobs in Tieto Group; however, it does not apply to jobs dealing with human lives and health.
