Tieto Corporation staff walkout to occur 15 May The Tietoväki union organization and Tieto Corporation’s Tieto Experts Association (TAS) will arrange a walkout on Friday, 15 May 2009, 13.00- 17.00h, throughout the entire corporation. This walkout is to occur because evidence has not emerged from the labour/management negotiations to show that outsourcing work to cheaper labour countries would really bring business-related benefit. The employer has also refused to consent to the demand on the part of employees to halve, at minimum, the number of dismissals and layoffs within the sphere of industrial cooperation procedure. Moreover, clear demonstration from the employer side showing serious enough attention to the relocation of personnel threatened by unemployment has not been received. TAS Chair Kalevi Heino further emphasizes that the financial results of the company’s first quarter do not indicate any need for the dismissals and layoffs presented in the employer’s original industrial cooperation proposal. “If the employer’s dismissals and layoffs as presented are implemented according to the proposal, the possibility that Tieto’s staff working in Finland can obtain the targeted profit with the remaining staff will be jeopardized," Mr Heino points out. The Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff (YTN) gives its support to the walkout by staff at Tieto Corporation, and urges all its members to participate in the walkout. “To defend the common interests of the entire staff, participation on the part of all personnel in the walkout is important,” Mr Heino states. The walkout will take place according to the announcement on Friday, 15 May 2009 between the hours of 13.00–17.00h. The event concerns all Tieto Corporation workplaces with the exception of those working to ensure human survival and health. Each and every employee can take part in the walkout, regardless of whether s/he is a member of a trade union. The walkout will not have any impact on individual employment. The employer has reported that the walkout will be entered in the working hours accounts as “Unpaid off-duty". Additional information concerning the walkout will be issued by the employer. The Tieto Experts Association (TAS) is a company union working under the auspices of the Federation of Profession and Managerial Staff (YTN). The purpose of this company union is to act as a link between its members and promote the professional as well as social and legal interests of its employed members. Membership in the union is open to members of YTN affiliates who work for Tieto Corporation. For more information about TAS, go to: http://www.te-ytn.net |
